The First World Islamic Tourism Conference : 24 - 25 July 2017
Tourism has become an important industry for many countries as it contributes toward economic growth and development. Tourism receipts in the form of foreign exchange earnings can impact a country’s economy significantly. During times of global crisis, it has been shown that people still continue to travel either for leisure or business. As reported by UNWTO Tourism Highlights 2015, international tourist arrivals worldwide is set to grow by 3.3% between the years 2010 and 2030 and this augurs well for the tourism industry as a whole.
Within the tourism industry, the segment on Islamic tourism has shown tremendous growth as seen in reports by Crescentrating & Mastercard as well as Thomson Reuters. It was reported in Thomson Reuters’ State of The Global Economy Report 2016/2017 that Muslim tourists’ contribution to the global economy was USD151 billion in 2015 and is expected to increase to USD243 billion by year 2021, excluding Haj and Umrah.
To further enhance and develop the segment of Islamic tourism, the Islamic Tourism Centre, under the purview of Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, will be organising the inaugural World Islamic Tourism Conference (WITC) on 24 - 25 July 2017 at the Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA.
